We are working with the University of Lancashire and NHS England by providing an opportunity for Occupational Therapy (OT) students to work voluntarily within our service. It is called a role emerging placement and benefits both the student and our charity.
What is a role emerging placement?
A role emerging placement is a non-traditional placement within a service where there is not an established occupational therapist role. Students are tasked with exploring how
the theory and philosophy of occupational therapy could potentially contribute to the service and then they present their thoughts in a presentation in the final week of the placement.
For students: the placement can enhance creativity, adaptability, and professional confidence.
For organisations like ours, it introduces occupational therapy perspectives where no formal OT existed, improving service delivery and client outcomes.
Our first placements are Alex and Kelly who are at Headway Central Lancashire from March until May 2026. We will be featuring some of their work very soon.
