Major Trauma Patient Support

Headway Central Lancashire provides a non clinical information advice and assistance service to patients at the Royal Preston Hospital. Major Trauma and Neuro patients are supported from admission to discharge through a free and confidential service funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and Headway Central Lancashire. 

Our Major Trauma Support Service staff team works with your treating team at the Royal Preston Hospital to support you in your recovery. We will visit you in hospital and provide advice and assistance to help you in the days and weeks after your major trauma injury. 

If you are too unwell to discuss your needs we can speak to your next of kin on your behalf. 

Our service is based upon your needs and everyone is different so might need particular areas of our service. 

Here is how we can help you: 

  • HELP WITH FINANCES including access to bank accounts, dealing with bills and other financial matters.
  • HELP WITH CLAIMING WELFARE BENEFITS including making a claim, completing forms and logging onto online applications. We also have some useful Self Help Guides.
  • GETTING YOU THE RIGHT LEGAL ADVICE including personal injury, mental capacity, employment and criminal matters through out trusted partners.
  • HELPING YOU TO CONTACT OTHERS including employers, the police, social services and other agencies.
  • SUPPORTING YOUR FAMILY  AND FRIENDS by offering information and advice relating to your recovery.
  • PROVING EMERGENCY FUNDING for those in financial hardship to help with travel to hospital costs, items while in hospital and other small expenses.
  • KEEPING IN TOUCH IF YOU HAVE COVID-19 through our telephone and iPad service. Contact your ward staff to arrange or telephone us see below.
