About Us

Our History

In early 2010 some interested parties and individuals wanted to re-form the Headway group in Preston. Headway Preston and Chorley began meeting in June 2010 and following a number of meetings, it was decided that Headway Preston & Chorley should be established and based in Preston. A Committee of professionals from legal, financial and rehabilitation backgrounds, family members and people who have an acquired brain injury was formed. The group became an independent registered charity on 21st October 2011 responsible for its own governance and funding.

On 4th October 2021 approval was sought from the Charity Commission, Companies House and Headway UK to change the charity name to Headway Central Lancashire.

A charity manager and assistant manager oversees the day to day running of the charity and is responsible for ensuring the charity operates within its guidelines and policies. A Services Coordinator organises the Headway sessions and activities and a Volunteer & Events Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and training volunteers and organising small events. Three Major Trauma Coordinators support our services to the Royal Preston Hospital. We also have professional advisers who donate their time and expertise to the charity and a team of volunteers who donate a considerable amount of time and effort in many roles.
